Recent Updates to the St. Maarten Bridge Opening Schedule

- Simpson Bay Bridge: The previous 3:00 PM opening is now at 2:00 PM.
- Causeway Bridge: The former 3:30 PM opening has been shifted to 4:30 PM.
What is the Reason for the New Bridge Schedule Changes?
This initiative, developed in collaboration with the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM) and the St. Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA), aims to enhance traffic flow in the Maho, Simpson Bay, and Cole Bay areas. By adjusting bridge openings, the project seeks to reduce vehicle delays, particularly benefiting motorists, taxis, airport arrivals at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), and tour operators during the peak tourist season.
Bridge openings can significantly impact road traffic, often leading to bottlenecks and extended travel times. By rescheduling the Simpson Bay Bridge opening to 2:00 PM, the overlap with peak afternoon traffic is minimized, allowing for a more consistent vehicle flow. Similarly, moving the Causeway Bridge opening to 4:30 PM helps in dispersing traffic volumes more evenly throughout the day, reducing the likelihood of congestion during high-traffic periods.
